Department of Didactics and Research on Educational Culture

The main research interests pursued in the Department involve:

  • Research on the application of the cultural theories of development and activity by L.S. Vygotsky and J.S. Bruner for educational practices and the improvement of the quality of school education;

  • Developmental Early Childhood Education - cultural contexts in the organisation of the process of education, especially children's education in the pre-school and early school education. Learning in instructional setting (models, strategies, developmental tasks), learning and thinking (creative, critical, project-based), motivation and learning;
  • Research on the quality and effects of the organization of the teaching process from the beginning of institutionalized education. Diagnosis. Ways of developing. Children's achievements, their personal resources gathered in subsequent stages of development. Support;
  • The teacher and the learner in the culture of education. Organizational culture of teachers teams. School learning environment. Language and its relation to learning. Individualized strategies for maintaining discipine. Teacher's reflectiveness.

Academics

Prof. dr habil. Ewa Filipiak

Educationalist, full professor at Kazimierz Wielki Unviersity, Director of the Institute of Education (2013-2017), Head of the Department of Didactics and Research on Educational Culture. Her research revolves around education as a factor in the development of an individual, in particular the development of the ability to learn and didactic socio-cultural applications voiced by L.S. Vygotsky and Jerome Bruner.

The author and co-author of a number of publications on education and early childhood education, inter alia: Developmental Teaching in Early Childhood Education according to L.S. Vygotsky. From theory to Practice; The Model of Developmental Teaching in Early Childhood Education according to L.S. Vygotsky. Students’ and Teachers’ Readiness. Ways of Application. A Thematic Report on the Realization of the Academic Centre for Creativity; book series With Vygotsky and Bruner in the Background. Developing Learning Abilities; Contexts for the Development of Language Activity of Early Childhood Education Children. Co-author of six handbooks for teachers entitled Tool Kit for a Good Teacher (IBE).

The originator and director of research projects oriented towards improving the quality of education. An author and director of the following projects:

  • Academic Centre of Creativity – Developmental Teaching according to Lev S.Wygotsky in Early Childhood Education (www.ack.ukw.edu.pl), (2014-2015);
  • The development of learning abilities of the primary and junior high schools students (2006-2009);
  • academic supervisor in the educational experiment Classical Junior High School in Bydgoszcz – The School of Key Competences (2008-2011);
  • head of the Polish team in the project The Profession of Pre-primary School Teacher and Primary School Teacher within Dynamic Concept (APVV-0026-07) 2008-2011,
  • Narrative environment of play and learning (NEPL) (2015-2017)
  • NOTED/10021 IPTE (2-year) - International Perspectives in Teacher Education
  • NOTED/10007 (4-year) – Multicultural Practicum Groups and Internationalisation of Teacher Education (MUPIT).

Małgorzata Karwasz, PhD

Educationalist, assistant professor in the Faculty of Pedagogy at Kazimierz Wielki Unviersity in Bydgoszcz, junior high school and high school councelor. Her research focuses on the problem of the quality of schooling, with special interest in the issue of organizational culture, techniques of mental work and pedagogical therapy (the functioning of and designing support for learners with special educational needs).

She has authored publications in education, inter alia a monograph Organizational Culture in School. Theory – Research – Recommendations (UKW, 2015), she has been the co-author of a handbook for teachers Tool Kit for a Good Teacher (IBE, 2014), and author of many papers
and book chapters.

Magdalena Kolber, PhD

Adam Mroczkowski, PhD

Educationalist & mathematician, assistant professor in the Faculty of Pedagogy, at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. His research focuses on mathematical education, f.e. culture of learning and teaching mathematics, mathematical language and mathematical mindsets.

He has written papers and book chapters in education, inter alia monography The Culture of learning mathematics of students graduating primary school and junior high school (UKW, 2019). He has been co-authored a handbook for teachers Tool Kit for a Good Teacher (IBE, 2014).

Marika Przybylska, PhD

Joanna Szymczak, PhD

Educationalist, educational therapist, assistant professor in the Faculty of Pedagogy, at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. Her research interests focus mainly on education and teacher formation, training and competences. She is interested in the process of learning (determinants, teacher role and tasks, setting up learning environment, alternative concepts and methods in education), reflectiveness and reflection (e.g. teacher’s and learner’s reflection).

She has co-authored a handbook for teachers Tool Kit for a Good Teacher (IBE, 2014), she has written papers and book chapters as well as a monography Reflection of Early Childhood Education Teachers on the Work with Learners (from the perspective of reconstruction studies). A Theoretical and Methodological Study (UKW, 2016).
